President Obama and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke in December named AtlantiCare in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Heartland Health in St. Joseph, Mo., among five winners of the 2009 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The winners, selected from 70 applicants, will receive their awards at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. American Hospital Association (AHA) President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock says, "We at the AHA congratulate both AtlantiCare and Heartland Health for this tremendous honor. They serve as role models within our field as hospitals across the country continue the journey of continuously improving the quality of patient care."
