Plugging in
By Mike Hrickiewicz

Long-time readers of HFM have undoubtedly noticed many changes in our outward appearance over the past year, from a new overall design to a greater use of photos and illustrative graphics and an added emphasis on products and vendors. However, some structural changes that support this new design may have eluded you.

Among the most important is a renewed determination to interface with the health care industry and access the expertise of leading professional societies.

Thus, while we’ve always coordinated our efforts with other American Hospital Association (AHA) entities such as the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES), we’ve now taken these efforts to a new level. In ASHE’s case, we’ve jointly produced landmark studies on hospital construction (see our February issue) and energy management (which will be featured next month); with ASHES, we’re working on a series of six, jointly produced articles that are appearing in our “Environmental Services” column throughout the year.

Outside the AHA family, we’ve continued our relationship with the American College of Healthcare Architects, which includes an annual architect’s roundtable discussion published in our January issue and four tutorials that appear quarterly. We’re also working with the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers, who sent a representative to take part in a design roundtable that will appear next month.

A good trade magazine is built on a foundation of solid relationships with industry thought leaders, and you can be assured that we’re plugging into the absolute best that health care has to offer.
