The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has released a four-step checklist to help hospitals stay prepared for patient surges due to H1N1 or seasonal flu. HHS' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response developed the list to supplement existing hospital emergency management plans. The checklist includes advice on how to protect and prepare hospital staff, implement plans to address patient care issues and hospital operations, address equipment and supply needs, and provide for security.
