The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and Underwriters Laboratories recently signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a suite of consensus-based standards for medical device interoperability, which will be drafted to help manufacturers design safer interoperable products and aid health care facilities in implementation. The collaboration comes at a time when many health facilities and manufacturers are grappling with how to achieve integrated systems of diagnostic and therapeutic devices and share data with electronic health records.
