Undergoing medical tests, let alone treatment, can cause many young patients to become anxious or frightened. This PET/CT unit exterior designed by Dream Think Imagine (DTI) at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami provides a thoughtfully inspired environment for diagnostic imaging.

The DTI team set out to bring into the hospital setting the ocean aspect around which Miami culture revolves in an effort to make young patients’ experiences less intimidating. DTI feedback has confirmed that this mission was accomplished, with staff reporting that they have an easier time testing patients whose focus quickly shifts to the images on the exterior of the equipment rather than the machinery itself.

The hospital’s driving factor in this project is to make children less anxious about the machinery and the diagnosis by finding little features within each design or sculpture that inspire them to go back and ultimately conquer the battles they are facing.
