The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is maintaining Web resources with the latest information on the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), including advice about environmental infection control and personal protective equipment. Health & Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in late May issued an emergency determination of the potential for a public health emergency involving MERS-CoV. Since April 2012, the World Health Organization has reported 55 cases (including 30 deaths) of the novel coronavirus in Saudi Arabia, France, Italy, Jordan, Qatar, Tunisia, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates. No cases have been reported in the United States to date.
