CDC issues guidelines for preventing norovirus in health care

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued guidelines for preventing and controlling norovirus gastroenteritis outbreaks in health care settings. Developed by the CDC's Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee, to which the American Hospital Association is a liaison organization, the guidelines include recommendations related to patient cohorting and isolation precautions; hand hygiene; patient transfer and ward closure; indirect patient care staff; diagnostics; personal protective equipment; environmental cleaning; staff leave; visitors; and education.
