Researchers studying hand hygiene of health care workers in the emergency department found that certain care situations, including bed location and type of health care worker performing care, resulted in poorer hand-hygiene practices. For instance, the strongest predictor of providers not washing their hands was when patients received care in a hallway bed. The study was reported in the November issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, the journal of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
