DOJ and HHS issue medical facility access guidance

The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights recently issued technical guidance for medical facilities on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Title III of the ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability by private hospitals, doctors' offices, clinics and other health care providers. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits disability-based discrimination by health care providers that receive federal financial assistance.
