Health care systems with more than one hospital or other accredited entity organized as a single system can now opt for a concurrent survey, in which all the system's organizations are surveyed at the same time, according to the July 21 issue of the Joint Commission Online e-newsletter. This option is available to health care systems within any Joint Commission accreditation program. While the concurrent survey option uses a structured approach to conducting the on-site survey, each organization with a distinct Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Certification Number will receive a separate survey report and accreditation decision. The surveys remain unannounced.
