Health & Human Services last month awarded more than $352 million in Hospital Preparedness Program grants for fiscal year 2011, which is about 11 percent less than last year. Among other activities, the program helps hospitals expand their medical surge capability, maintain preparedness plans, purchase equipment, train staff on disaster response and conduct exercises.
