The American Hospital Association in November urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to approve the Joint Commission's application for deeming authority as an accrediting organization for psychiatric hospitals wishing to participate in Medicare and Medicaid. Providers accredited by an approved national accrediting organization are deemed to meet all applicable conditions of participation.
