Effective this month, the Joint Commission will update its existing requirement regarding design criteria for new, altered or renovated space by referencing the 2010 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities versus the previously referenced 2001 edition. According to an article in the December 2010 issue of the Joint Commission Resources' Environment of Care News, organizations also will have the option of using state rules and regulations.
