The nonprofit ECRI Institute recently released its annual list of Top 10 Health Technology Hazards for 2012, with alarm hazards being named the top danger for the new year. "Our list can be used as a guide to help hospitals focus on the most important issues," says James P. Keller Jr., ECRI's vice president, health technology evaluation and safety. Other ranked hazards include exposure from radiation therapy and computed tomography, medication administration errors using infusion pumps, cross-contamination from flexible endoscopes and inattention to change management for device connectivity.
