The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) delayed until March 2011 the effective date of The Joint Commission's revised telemedicine credentialing and privileging requirements for hospitals, citing proposed changes to Medicare's conditions of participation that would be less disruptive to accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals. In a letter to The Joint Commission, CMS said it would notify the accreditor "if and when a final rule concerning privileging of telemedicine practitioners is adopted."
