NFPA weekly update: May 25-29

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of May 25-29.

Tentative interim amendments

NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®. The committee is soliciting public comments on two proposed tentative interim amendments (TIAs) submitted to the code’s 2026 edition. TIA No. 1912 seeks to modify requirements related to equipment connections, and public comments are due July 8. TIA No. 1915 seeks to modify tables related to grounding conductors, and public comments are due July 7. The TIA’s are posted under the current and prior editions tab.

The committee also posted final ballot results for proposed TIA No. 1897 to the code’s 2029 edition. The TIA includes revisions to tables on wiring methods for use in Class 1, Division 1 locations. The ballot is posted under the next edition tab.

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. The committee is soliciting public comments on proposed TIA No. 1913 to the code’s 2027 edition, which seeks to modify language related to the testing of noncombustible materials. Public comments are due July 8, and the TIA is posted under the current and prior editions tab.

The committee also posted final ballot results for TIA No. 1901 to the code’s 2027 edition. The TIA includes revisions related to oxygen and medical air outlets requirements. The ballot is posted under the next edition tab.

NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®. The committee is soliciting public comments on proposed TIA No. 1909 to the code’s 2024 edition, which seeks to modify language related to testing of noncombustible materials. Public comments are due June 30. The TIA is posted under the current and prior editions tab.

The committee also posted TIA No. 12-7 to the code’s 2012 edition and TIA No. 24-1 to the code’s 2024 edition. The TIAs add a new section on weapons detection systems to their respective editions.

NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives, 2028 edition. A second draft meeting notice for the committee’s Oct. 20-22 meetings is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, 2027 edition. The committee posted its 2026 Motions Committee Report and meeting agenda for the 2026 NFPA Technical Meeting under the next edition tab.

NFPA 105, Standard for Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives, 2028 edition. A second draft meeting notice for the committee’s Oct. 20-22 meetings is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 318, Standard for the Protection of Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities, 2028 edition. Pre-second draft meeting minutes from the committee’s May 19 meeting are posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.
