NFPA weekly update: May 26-30

The National Electrical Code committee advances toward the 2026 edition

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of May 26-30.

Ballots and reports

NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers. The Motions Committee Report for the standard’s 2026 edition is posted under the “next edition” tab.

NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. The Motions Committee Report for the standard’s 2026 edition is posted under the “next edition” tab.

NFPA 70, National Electrical Code. The Motions Committee Report for the code’s 2026 edition is posted under the “next edition” tab.

NFPA 855, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems. The Motions Committee Report for the standard’s 2026 edition is posted under the “next edition” tab.

NFPA 1225, Standard for Emergency Services Communications. The first draft ballot for the 2027 eidtion was posted with no first correlating revisions and notes. The first draft report has also been posted and is open for public comment submissions unitl July 28. Both documents are posted under the “next edition” tab.

Agendas

The following committees have posted their agendas for the upcoming 2025 NFPA Technical Meeting. All agendas are posted under the “next edition” tab for each code/standard.

Notices 

NFPA 13R, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies. Notices for the committee’s July 7-8 meetings are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The meeting pertains to the first draft of the standard’s 2028 edition

NFPA 150, Fire and Life Safety in Animal Housing Facilities Code. Notices for the committee’s Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 meetings are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The meeting pertains to the first draft of the standard’s 2028 edition
