NFPA weekly update: Sept. 8-12

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of Sept. 8-12. 

Final ballots and standards council decisions

NFPA 55, Compressed Gases and Cryogenics Fluids Code. The second draft ballot of the code’s 2026 edition — including the public comments with responses report, second revisions report and final ballot — is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft section.

NFPA 70B, Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance. The second draft ballot of the standard’s 2026 edition — including the second correlating revisions report and final ballot — is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft section.

NFPA 204, Standard for Smoke and Heat Venting. The first draft ballot of the standard’s 2027 edition — including the public input with responses report, first revisions report, committee input report and final ballot — is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft section.

NFPA 855, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems. The committee posted the transcript of its standards council meeting from Aug. 18, when it discussed the standard’s 2026 edition. The transcript is posted under the current and prior editions tab in the other committee information section.

Tentative interim amendments

NFPA 2, Hydrogen Technologies Code. The committee is soliciting public comments on the proposed 2026 edition tentative interim amendment (TIA) No. 1861. The comment period closes Oct. 17. The TIA is posted under the current and prior editions tab in the tentative interim amendment section.

NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. The committee is soliciting public comments on the proposed 2025 edition TIA No. 1857 and TIA No. 1860. The comment periods close Oct. 21. NFPA 855, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems. The committee is soliciting public comments on the proposed 2026 edition TIA No. 1852. The comment period closes Oct. 17. NFPA 3, Standard for Commissioning of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems. NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. The committee posted second draft meeting minutes from its Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 meetings where it discussed the code’s 2027 edition. NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®. The committee posted second draft meeting minutes from its July 23-24 meetings where it discussed the code’s 2027 edition.
