NFPA weekly update: March 9-13

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of March 9-13.  

Tentative interim amendments

The following codes and standards have updates related to tentative interim amendments (TIAs):

NFPA 318, Standard for the Protection of Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities. Final ballot results for TIA No. 1889 have been posted under the next edition tab in the other committee information section. The TIA revises a table on recommended smoke detection design criteria.

NFPA 5000, Building Construction and Safety Code. The committee is seeking public comments on proposed TIA No. 1870. The TIA seeks to add requirements for weapons detection systems to the code’s 2024 and 2027 editions. Comments are due April 24. The TIA is posted under the current & prior editions tab and the next edition tab.

Meeting notices and minutes

NFPA 418, Standard for Heliports and Vertiports. First draft meeting notices for upcoming meetings taking place April 23-26 to discuss the standard’s 2028 edition are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 1225, Standard for Emergency Services Communication. Second draft meeting minutes from the committee’s Aug. 18-22, 2025, and Sept. 4, 2025, meetings are posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section. The minutes discuss the standard’s 2027 edition.
