NFPA weekly update: May 5-9

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of May 5-9.

Ballot

NFPA 1082, Standard for Facilities Fire and Life Safety Director Professional Qualifications. The committee posted the second draft ballot and second draft meeting determination under the “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section. Because the committee received no public comments in its last public input window, it has voted to not schedule a second draft meeting. The 2026 edition of NFPA 1082 will be forwarded through the standard development process, which includes the posting of the second draft report and opening of the standard to receive notices of intent to make a motion.

Meeting notices

NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler systems. A notice for the committee’s upcoming meeting taking place July 15 is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The meeting pertains to the first draft of the standard’s 2028 edition.

NFPA 85, Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code. A notice for an upcoming meeting taking place Aug. 26 is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The meeting pertains to the first draft of the standard’s 2027 edition.
