The Joint Commission recently posted proposed new and revised laboratory services standards on its website for field review. If approved by the Standards and Survey Procedures Committee and the Board of Commissioners, these potential standards would be available online in January 2011 and would be effective July 1, 2011. The additions and changes to the laboratory standards are based on customer input, clarify current Joint Commission standards and improve the transparency and consistency of the accreditation process. The field review will be open through October 19.
