ECRI Institute, Plymouth Meeting, Pa., recently issued its Top 10 Health Technology Hazards list for 2013. Now in its sixth year, the list is designed to raise awareness of the potential dangers associated with the use of medical devices and systems. This year's list includes alarm hazards, medication administration errors using infusion pumps, unnecessary radiation exposures and radiation burns during diagnostic radiology procedures, patient and data mismatches in electronic health records and other health information technology (HIT) systems, and interoperability failures with medical devices and HIT systems, among others.
