The Joint Commission in May announced one new National Patient Safety Goal for 2012, which requires hospitals and critical-access hospitals accredited by the organization to implement evidence-based practices to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections by Jan. 1, 2013. The goal (NPSG.07.06.01) is not applicable to pediatric populations.
