The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) last month introduced its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system for hospitals and other health facilities. LEED for Healthcare guides the design and construction of both new buildings and major renovations, and can be applied to inpatient, outpatient and long-term care facilities, medical offices, assisted living facilities and medical education and research centers. "LEED for Healthcare is now six years in the making, addressing the health care industry's unique green building needs," said Scot Horst, USGBC's senior vice president of LEED.
