The Joint Commission has been approved through July 15, 2014, as a deeming organization for hospitals that participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced. The American Hospital Association had urged CMS to approve the accreditor's request for re-approval as a deeming organization. The Joint Commission accredits about 88 percent of the nation's hospitals.
