NFPA weekly update: April 13-17

NFPA committee seeks comments on a Health Care Facilities Code amendment that would modify oxygen and medical air outlet requirements

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of April 13-17.    

Tentative interim amendments

NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code. The committee released final ballot results on tentative interim amendments No. 1886, which sought to modify storage requirements in the code’s 2027 edition. The ballot passed on March 9. Results are posted under the Next Edition tab in the Other Committee Information section.

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. The committee is seeking public comments on TIA No. 1901 to the code’s 2024 and 2027 editions. The TIA would modify requirements to oxygen and medical air outlets. The TIA is posted under the Next Edition tab, and comments are due May 22.

NFPA 780, Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems. The committee is seeking public comments on TIA No. 1899 to the code’s 2026 edition. The TIA would revise and renumber certain sections and annexes within the code. The TIA is posted under the Current and Prior Editions tab, and comments are due May 13.

Meeting notices and minutes

NFPA 170, Standard for Fire Safety and Emergency Symbols, 2027 edition. Second draft meeting minutes from the committee’s April 7 meeting are posted under the Next Edition tab in the Second Draft Committee Information section.

NFPA 204, Standard for Smoke and Heat Venting, 2027 edition. A second draft meeting notice for an upcoming May 19 meeting is posted under the Next Edition tab in the Second Draft Committee Information Section.

Consensus standards move forward

The following 2026 code and standard editions did not receive any notices of intent to make a motion on their second drafts, which means they will be forwarded to the NFPA Standards Council for adoption as a consensus standard.
