NFPA weekly update: April 6-10

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of April 6-10.   

Tentative interim amendments

The following codes and standards have updates related to tentative interim amendments (TIAs):

NFPA 2, Hydrogen Technologies Code. The committee is seeking public comments on proposed TIA No. 1893. The TIA seeks to revise tables related to outdoor bulk hydrogen compressed gas systems. Comments are due May 4. The TIA is posted under the current & prior editions tab.

NFPA 70, National Electrical Code. The committee is seeking public comments on two proposed TIAs. TIA No. 1897 seeks to revise tables related to Class 1, Division 1 wiring methods. Comments are due May 14. TIA No. 1892 seeks to revise requirements related to ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel. Comments are due May 20. Ballots

NFPA 31, Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment. The final first draft ballot for the standard’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section. The ballot includes the public input with responses report, committee input report and first revisions report.

NFPA 551, Guide for the Evaluation of Fire Risk Assessments. The second draft ballot for the guide’s 2027 edition was passed with no revisions. The ballot is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

Meeting notices and minutes

NFPA 12, Standard on Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing Systems. A first draft meeting agenda for upcoming meetings taking place May 12-24 to discuss the standard’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 12A, Standard on Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing Systems. A first draft meeting agenda for upcoming meetings taking place May 12-24 to discuss the standard’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 14, Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems. A second draft meeting agenda for upcoming meetings taking place May 5-7 to discuss the standard’s 2027 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 45, Standard on Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals. Second draft meeting minutes from the committee’s March 10-12 meetings where it discussed the standard’s 2027 edition are posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code. A second draft meeting notice for the committee’s Dec. 9 meeting to discuss the code’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 2001, Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems. A first draft meeting agenda for upcoming meetings taking place May 12-14 to discuss the standard’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.
