NFPA weekly update: Feb. 2-6

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of Feb. 2-6.      

Ballots and reports

NFPA 20, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection. The first draft ballot for the standard’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code. The second draft ballot for the code’s 2027 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section. The ballot includes the public comment report, second revisions report and final ballot.

NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. The second draft ballot for the standard’s 2027 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section. The ballot includes the second correlating revisions report and final ballot.

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. The second draft ballot for the code’s 2027 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section. The ballot includes the second correlating revisions report and final ballot.

NFPA 750, Standard on Water Mist Fire Protection Systems. The second draft ballot of the standard’s 2027 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section. The ballot includes the public comment report, second revision report and final ballot.

NFPA 2001, Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems. The final ballot for tentative interim amendment No. 1873 is posted under the next edition tab in the other committee information section.

Tentative interim amendments

The following standards have tentative interim amendments (TIAs) open for public comment until March 6:

NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code. Proposed TIA No. 1883 seeks to revise vent system requirements in the code’s current and prior editions.

NFPA 318, Standard for the Protection of Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities. Proposed TIA No. 1889 seeks to revise a table on recommended smoke detection design criteria.

Meeting notices, agendas and minutes

NFPA 20, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection. The committee posted first draft meeting minutes from its Oct. 9-10, 2025, meetings where it discussed the standard’s 2028 edition.

NFPA 31, Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment. The committee posted first draft meeting minutes from its Jan. 27 meeting where it discussed the standard’s 2028 edition. The agendas are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 45, Standard on Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals. The committee posted second draft meeting agendas for its upcoming March 10-12 meetings to discuss the standard’s 2027 edition. NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®. The committee posted a pre-first draft meeting agenda for its upcoming Feb. 16 meeting where it will discuss the code’s 2029 edition. The agenda is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code. The committee posted first draft meeting minutes from its Jan. 13-14 meetings where it discussed the code’s 2028 edition. The minutes are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. The committee posted first draft meeting minutes from its Nov. 10-12, 2025, meetings where it discussed the standard’s 2028 edition. The minutes are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.
