NFPA weekly update: Jan. 26-30
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of Jan. 26-30.
Tentative interim amendments
The following standards have tentative interim amendments (TIAs) open for public comment until March 5:
NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids. Proposed TIA No. 1886 will revise references in chapters 10 and 12 in the code’s 2027 edition regarding liquid storage.
NFPA 55, Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code. Proposed TIA No. 1878 will revise signage requirements in the code’s 2027 edition.
NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®. Proposed TIA No. 1875 will revise standards for grounding electrode systems in the code’s 2026 edition.
NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®. Proposed TIA No. 1869 will add new requirements for weapons detection systems to the code’s 2021, 2024 and 2027 editions.
Ballots
NFPA 80A, Recommended Practice for Protection of Buildings from Exterior Fire Exposures. The second draft ballot for the document’s 2027 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section. The ballot includes the public comment with responses report, second revisions report and final ballot.
NFPA 400, Hazardous Materials Code. The first draft ballot results for the code’s 2028 edition are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.
Meeting notices, agendas and minutes
NFPA 70, National Electrical Code. The committee posted a pre-first draft meeting agenda for its upcoming Jan. 27-28 meetings and first draft meeting notices for meetings taking place in September and October to discuss the code’s 2029 edition.
NFPA 80A, Recommended Practice for Protection of Buildings from Exterior Fire Exposures. The committee posted second draft meeting minutes from its Nov. 4, 2025, meeting where it discussed the document’s 2027 edition.
NFPA 115, Standard for Laser Fire Protection. The committee posted a second draft meeting agenda for its upcoming April 8 meeting where it will discuss the standard’s 2027 edition.
