NFPA weekly update: Dec. 29 to Jan. 2

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of Dec. 29 to Jan. 2.

Ballots

NFPA 101A, Guide on Alternative Approaches to Life Safety. There were no first correlating revisions or correlating committee notes proposed for the 2028 edition of NFPA 101A; therefore, there is no correlating committee ballot on this document. The NFPA 101A First Draft report will be posted on or by March 25, 2026, with a public comment closing date of June 3, 2026. The memo is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 318, Standard for the Protection of Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities. The first draft ballot for the standard’s 2028 edition is posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section. The ballot includes the public input with responses, first revisions with statement, committee input report and ballot results

Tentative interim amendments and Errata

NFPA 1, Fire Code, 2024 edition. Proposed tentative interim amendment (TIA) No. 1879 is open for public comment until Feb. 3, 2026. The TIA involves life safety standards for day care occupancies.

NFPA 2, Hydrogen Technologies Code, 2026 edition. Errata 2-26-1 to correct a reference in the 2026 edition was issued Dec. 17, 2025. The errata is posted under the next edition tab.

NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, 2028 edition. Final ballot results for TIA No. 1868 are posted under the next edition tab.

NFPA 1, Fire Code, 2027 edition. Second draft meeting minutes from the Dec. 8, 2025, meeting are posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 13R, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies, 2028 edition. First draft meeting agendas for upcoming meetings taking place Jan. 15-16 are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.

NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, 2027 edition. Second draft meeting minutes from the Dec. 9, 2025, meeting are posted under the next edition tab in the second draft committee information section.

NFPA 31, Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment, 2028 edition. First draft meeting notices for upcoming meetings taking place Jan. 27-28 are posted under the next edition tab in the first draft committee information section.
