Pennsylvania

The Chester County Hospital and Health System, West Chester, has announced plans to construct a new, three-floor patient care tower that will accommodate 72 private patient rooms and a linear accelerator. Ballinger architectural firm has been chosen for the $45.2 million project, which is already under way, and has an expected timeline of 18 months.

Minnesota

Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota's Bemidji facility recently broke ground on the new Sanford Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center. The two-story, 46,385-square-foot expansion to the northwest side of the hospital is expected to open in spring 2013. Kraus-Anderson Bemidji has been named the general contractor for the approximately $9 million construction project.

California

UC San Diego Health System officially broke ground on the $670 million Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla. The project involves the construction of a 10-story, 509,500-square-foot building and a separate 40,000-square-foot central plant, as well as the renovation of 65,000 square feet of the existing Thornton Hospital.

New York

Kenmore Mercy Hospital, part of Catholic Health, recently broke ground on a new $14 million emergency department that will nearly double the size of its existing unit and bring state-of-the-art emergency services to individuals, families and businesses throughout the region. Designed to care for up to 40,000 patients a year, the 24,000-square-foot facility will include 25 private treatment rooms.
